Office Social Story

What to Expect When Visiting Our Office

Arriving at the Office:

When you arrive, a friendly receptionist, Maeve, will greet you and your family. You can relax and play with our toys in the waiting area with your parent or caregiver until it’s time for your appointment.

Meeting Your Therapist:

Your therapist- Emily, our Neurodevelopmental therapist or Fionna, our Early Intervention Speech therapist- will welcome you in the waiting area. They’ll say hello and guide you to the therapy room or office, with fidgets and toys to play with. It’s okay to feel a little shy or nervous—they’re here to make you feel comfortable and supported.

Exploring the Therapy Room:

The therapy room is a safe and inviting space with toys, books, and activities designed to help you learn and play.

What You’ll Do in Therapy:

Your therapist will explain the session’s activities. You might play games, talk about different topics, take a listening test, throw and catch, or try exercises to build new skills. Feel free to ask questions if you’re unsure about anything.

Taking Breaks:

If you need a break, just let your therapist or guardian know. They’ll make sure you have a moment to rest before continuing.

Wrapping Up:

When the session is over, your therapist will let you know it’s time to finish. They might share something exciting about what’s planned for the next session. Then, you’ll return to the waiting area.

Heading Home:

Before leaving, your parent or guardian will stop by the reception desk to schedule your next visit. After that, you’re ready to head home or continue with your day!

Remember:

It’s normal to feel a mix of emotions when visiting the office—whether you’re excited, curious, or nervous. Everyone here is dedicated to helping you feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.
